a. Note:   Bio notes: John Nevenhoven, son of Jacobus and Gacena Waulkes Nevenhoven, was born on March 17, 1878, in the Netherlands. When he was 21 years old he came to the United States and settled in Freeport, Illinois, Two years later he moved to Iowa. On April 20, 1903, he was united in marriage to Minnie Rops. Together they farmed near Aplington until when 1940 when they retired and moved into Aplington. Seven children were born to this union; John, Jake, Minnie Wallerstien, Charles, Susie Reints and Peter who died at the age of 6 years. Joan (Mrs. Robert Drew), daughter of Susie Reints, also made her home with them.
 Mr. Nevenhoven became a member of the Washington Reformed Church near Ackley in 1916. He served in that church as a deacon. In 1931 he transferred his member ship to the First Reformed Churh of Aplington where he maintained his membership until the time of death.
 After a linger illness of five years he died July 27, 1951.
 He was preceded in death by his son, Peter; his parents; 2 sisters and 5 brothers. He is survived by his wife, 1 brother Peter of Freeport, Illinois; children, 9 grandchildren, and a great grandchild.
