Notes
a. Note:   Louise Hildebrand Witt was a very nice woman with a pleasant, easy going personality. She was very conservative and quiet. She loved to crochet and quilt. She made many items that her descendants enjoy. She crocheted some patterns so much that she didn't look at the pattern any more, just crocheted away. Her quilting stitches were the finest stitches I have ever seen. She taught her daughters that fine sewing skill. Ruth learned quilting techniques from her also.
 --------------------
Ruth Witt Stude: My mother, Louise (Hildebrand) Witt was born on Oct. 8, 1894 in Barton Co. near Ellinwood, Kansas. I think she attended school about seven years, I don't think she finished the Eighth Grade. Mom was an excellent quilter, she loved to quilt and crochet. My parents were living at Bison, Kansas when I was born, but my birth was in Stafford, Kansas. Shortly before I was born, a serious flu epidemic had hit all over the United States. The doctor advised Mom to go to Stafford and wait for my birth. This way she would be near a doctor in case of health problems. As luck would have it, I arrived three weeks later, on Dec. 28, 1918, so she had quite a long stay. I guess none of us got the flu, though.
Mom spoke German sometimes when she was on the phone to Aunt Frieda. She would switch to German when they wanted to say something she didn't want us kids to understand. Dad did speak a little, but I don't think much.
(See book "Ruth Elaine Witt Stude and Family" for more stories.)

Linda (Fritch) von der Heyde: Louise Hildebrand Witt was the mid-wife that delivered my mother, Martha Louise Thielenhaus, into this world, or so it says on my mother's birth certificate.

Shirley Witt Markley: Charles Hildebrand gave Grandpa & Grandma (Bill & Louise Witt) a mantle clock as a wedding present, and I purchased that at auction this past May (2006, from Art Witt's estate). It runs and keeps accurate time, and I use it every day. [Hildebrand, Franz family.FTW]
