American Agriculture News -- Local Issue, 2007. Written by Larry Matlack, President of AAM:
 THE PASSING OF A GENERATION
On Monday October 22, Howard William Stude 88, from Copland Ks went home to be with his Lord. Howard received that day the Parity for which he fought for thirty years. Today Howard`s work is on Parity with each other person in Heaven, something he had not enjoyed on this earth for most of his life as a farmer. But as I reflect on his life I believe it a bit disrespectful to say he fought for Parity rather than he worked very hard for it. You see Howard was a true gentle man and he along with his wife Ruth who had proceeded him in death several years before were the kind of people who were givers rather than takers. They made no monumental achievements in their lives by most peoples standards although Ruth did have a quilt she had made for the American Agriculture Movement hang in the Smithsonian Museum for many years. With a kind heart, a civil tongue and a love for all people Howard and Ruth were always an example of the best that people can be. They were Republicans in what those who only think they know it all call an organization of Democrats. There were never harsh words for people who disagreed, only a steadfast commitment to good ideas to help fellow Americans. Howard and Ruth like many I have known of their generation had such an uplifting effect on almost everyone they touched that their true contribution to society can never be measured. There are a few left of their generation and there are people in all generations who contribute much, but it is evident that with the lack of civil discourse from the top of government to the towns and farms across America we are loosing something Howard and Ruth had and we all desperately need. I fear that what is passing from America is far more than a generation
