Note: Met Dad at a YMCA dance in Lawrence while Lawrence High School. She lived down the street (one over?). Dated through high school & visited him several times on weekends, via train, while he attended the US Naval Academy.
After HS, her father got her a job where he worked in one of the woolen mills where she was a fabric mender, one of the higher-paying jobs. That is how she could afford the train trip to Annapolis, MD (changing trains twice) to see Dad.
It was on vists to see Dad at the US Naval Academy, that he taught her to drive, using one of his buddy's car (stick shift). She got her drivers licence from the Naval Academy and then used it to get one from Maryland.
