a. Note:   The 1870 and 1880 US Census show Sarah "Martin" is listed as living with Benjamin and Rachel and is listed as "widowed" and Mother-In-Law.
 All of Rachel's children have "K" as a middle initial. Back then this was usually the first initial of their "mother's" maiden name. In their daughter Susan's obituary, she is listed as mother Rachel (Keller) Strouse. The children's "death certificates" all state different names : Keller and Martin. Keller would prove why the children all have "K" as a middle initial.
 The only thing I can think of is Rachel's mother could have got remarried and hence the name Martin for her in those census or Martin was her mother's "maiden" name.

 OBITUARY RECORD
 MRS. RACHEL STROUSE OF POTTSTOWN
 Rachel, wife of Benjamin K. Strouse Sr., died at 10 o´clock this morning, of infirmities incident to old age, at the residence of her son, David Strouse, No. 727 Walnut Street, aged 60 years, 8 months, and 6 days. The family moved to Pottstown from Oley, Berks County, eight years ago. The husband is a miller by trade and has worked for some years in the employ of the Pottstown Iron Company. The surviving children are Sarah, wife of William Baker, and Susan, wife of Frank Wentzel, both of Pottstown; Benjamin Strouse of Lower Pottsgrove; Isaac, Jacob, and David Strouse, all of Pottstown. Deceased was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

 OBITUARY RECORD
 The funeral of Mrs. Rachel Strouse, wife of Benjamin K. Strouse, Sr., No. 727 Walnut Street, was held this morning at 9 o´clock, from the residence of her son, David Strouse, No. 727 Walnut Street. Rev. D. K. Kepner conducted services at the house and the cortege then proceeded to Amityville, where Rev. U. P. Heilman preached in the church and interment was made. The pall-bearers were four sons of the deceased, David, Benjamin, Isaac, and Jacob Strouse.
 NOTE : The Daily Ledger ( 1895 - 1918 ) was an evening paper back then.
