a. Note:   Almira married Moses Halteman, a farmer in East Vincent Township, son of Christian and Deborah (Stauffer) Halteman. Christian was one of the two who bonded the administrators of Jesse's estate. Moses became Almira's legal guardian in June 1863 (he married her three years later), and became Mary Jane's legal guardian in 1870 after her first guardian died. This is guardian of the estate only; both daughters continued to live with their mother (although both Catharine and Mary Jane were living with Moses and Almira at the time of the 1870 census). Moses and Almira had six children, four of whom, three sons and a daughter, lived to adulthood. All four married and had children.
