 JOHN F. LEVAN, GROCER IS DEAD; HAD AREA BAKERY ROUTE YEARS AGO
 A man who sold bread and pies on a horse and wagon route around Pottstown for 35 years died yesterday.
 John F. Levan, 82, of 82 Warren Street, died at his home. He owned a bakery bearing his name at King and Warren Streets and once made daily rounds of the borough to sell his pastry, retiring 30 years ago. He once quit the bakery business to operate a farm along Township Line Road, Sanatoga for several years in the early 1920's When he finally retired from baking, he became a grocer and had that business at his home until he died. Mr. Levan was born in Berks County, a son of the late Charles and Mary (Angstadt) Levan and was the husband of Ella (Baker) Levan. He was a member of Zion's United Church of Christ, Manatawny Lodge 214, I O O F and Excelsior encampment 85. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Edna DeKalb, 517 High Street, Bertha, wife of C. Norton Rupert, Pottstown RD3 two sons Frank W., Pottstown Route 18, John C., Pottstown RD 3; three sisters, Lillian, wife of Thomas Diener, Boyertown, Jennie, wife of Isaac Swaverly, Beech and Henry Streets, and Iva, wife of Frank Fredericks, 77 Henry Street. There are 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Schumacher and Reber Funeral Home, 359 King Street. The Rev. Wallace Flood, pastor of First Baptist Church will officiate and interment will be made in Mount Zion Cemetery.
  Levan - On Monday, August 31, 1959, John F. husband of Ella (Baker) Levan age 82 years. Relatives and friends are invited to the services from Schumacher & Reber Funeral Home, 359 King Street, Pottstown, on Thursday September 3rd at 2 p.m. Interment in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday evening 7 to 8:30. (SCHUMACHER & REBER)
