Notes
a. Note:   n the steam engine exploded on a train on which he was engineer. Rumor had it that he pushed the other man in the cab off of the train before the explosion. After Arthur was killed, Mae had a tourist camp in the upper part of Ohio which she operated during the summer months. Rita recalls how she, Frances (who later married Wilbur) and Tootsie (who later married Alton) would swim in the lake. There were submerged pilings which had once supported a dock and which were slimy and really scary when your feet hit against them. Frances and Tootsie were then dating Wilbur and Alton. All four of his sons served in World War II and Aunt Mae had a banner with four stars in the window to show their involvement. Rita recalls that she went to Ohio with Aunt Mae, only to get homesick for the family dog, Cookie, so Aunt Mae had to bring her back to Pennsylvania. Rita had a crush on her cousin, Allen, who played the piano. Both he and his twin brother served in the Navy.
