William Ferris PRITCHETT aka Bill PRITCHETT died on October 5th, 1951 in Prescott (Yavapai), Arizona (AZ). His third wife Alma Jon CHUMBLEY PRITCHETT survived him as did his two previous wives Lydia Agnes SNYDER HARRIS PRITCHETT ALLRED and Ina Laurie FLETCHER PRITCHETT CASE. William's most common occupation was as a miner, but he also served as a railway trolley engineer and as a blacksmith.
The informant is his third wife Alma Jon CHUMBLEY PRITCHETT. His place of birth is correctly stated, however family folklore regarding his father James Delcane/Dekalb or James D. PRITCHETT is evident again in that Alma states James D. was born in West Virginia. See the prior posting for James D. PRITCHETT death certificate for a review of this common error.
Alma states that William's father was James O. PRITCHETT, possibly either a typo error meant to read "D." or a incorrect remembrance of the father's name.
Also William's mother is noted as Clara June CADY, whereas her headstone (a photo of which is in this album) reads Clara Jane CADY.
William Ferris is the first born of 4 children of James Decalne/Dekalb PRITCHETT and Clara Jane CADY.
The burial of William Ferris is also chronicled in the autobiography of William's only daughter, Lorrene Arilla PRITCHETT BYKERK . The service was private and he was buried on what was thought to be his land.
Lastly, Alma states that William had been in Arizona for 51 years at the time of his death which would have been around the year 1900 when he was age 16. To my knowledge, no proof has been presented to substantiate that fact. William nor his father James D. PRITCHETT could be found in the 1900 census, although it is known the family was in Phoenix by 1903 when Clara Jane CADY died. By 1910 William is found in the Los Angeles (Los Angeles) census.
It is also stated that he resided in Yavapai County for 26 years (from the 1935 era) and that does mirror the account given by his daughter Lorrene in her autobiography.
In the 1910 census, LA, California, he is listed as William F. Farris.
