Schwartz of 2214 Markham Street, active for many yers in the community life of Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Monday morning at Memorial Hospital after a heart attack Since 1947 Mrs. Schwartz nee Miriam Davis was involved in a wide variety of community projects. From the early years of its inception, Mrs. Schwartz served on the Manitowoc County Council of Social Agencies, continuing up to the present time and after its name was changed in 1964 to Manitowoc County Council of Community Welfare. At the time of her death she was also a member of the Manitowoc Public Library Board, the Wisconsin Library Board Trustees' Assn. and the National Council of Jewish Women. She had served as president of the latter organization. In 1947, Mrs. Schwartz was affiliated with the Manitowoc County Chapter, National Foundation for INfantile Paralysis and was chapter chairman from 1954 thorough 1957. A member of the Manitowoc League of Women Voters, she ws elected president in 1951 and was elected a director of the state league in 1954. She had participated in the Great Books program and became a member of the American Association of University Women discussion group in 1954 while serving on the AAUEW international relations committee. Mrs. Schwartz served two years on the original board of directors of Shady Lane Home, was appointed to the Mayor's Committee for Adequate Detention Facilities and organized and supervised a series of classes for the public on the United Nations. It was in 1954 that Mrs. Schwartz organized study discussion group on Attack on Education. The prograzm was accepted by AAUW Manitowoc Womans' Club and several Parent Teacher groups. She intitiated the first meeting which let to the Shelter Workshop in the city in 1956. A year later she was elected to the board of directors of Manitowoc County Civic Music Asn., named to the Library Board, the Mayor's Better Literature and Entertainment Committee and the advance gifts committee of Manitowoc United Fund. Mrs. Schwartz was elected to the board of directors of Manitowoc Memorial Hospital in 1959 and in 1961 became active in Manitowoc County Association for Mental Health. She was president in 1962 and also served as a director of the state organization She was appointed to the Manitowoc Committee for Aging in 1964 and ws recognized for her efforts with a certificate of merit from the city of Manitowoc in 1969. In 1968 she organized the Manitowoc City Volunteer Committee. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a past president of the Eastern Star Auxiliary and the Federation of Women's Clubs, changed in 1956 to Manitowoc Womans' Club, serving as a vice president. She was also on the district and state board of the parent organization. Mrs. Schwartz is survived by her husband, two sons, Byhron of Manitowoc and Dr. Robert Schwartz, of Los Angeles, her Mother, Mrs Carrie Ronschke of Chicago and two gradchildren Funeral services will bea 3 p.m. Wednesday at Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home, 5841 West Burleigh, Milwaukee.
