 Friday 12 December 1919: FINED FOR BETTING. At the Kogarah Police Court on Wednesday James Laidlaw, the proprietor of a tobacconist shop in Rocky Point Road. Rockdale, was charged with using his premises for the purpose of receiving money for betting on horse races. Defendant pleaded guilty and was fined £20, in default two months'
 imprisonment, the Magistrate remarking that the maximum penalty was £100.
