Order of filiation and maintenance of bastard son of John Wallace, weaver, and Ann Taberner, singlewoman - ref. QSP/2377/26 - date: 1796 1 Sep County of Lancaster, (to wit.) The order of Robert Master Docter in Divinity and Thomas Baldwin Clerk two of his majesty's justices of the peace in and for the said county one whereof being of the quorum, and both residing next unto the limits of the parish church within the parish of Northmeols in the said county made the first day of September in the thirty sixth year of the reign of his said majesty king George the third concerning a male bastard child, lately born in the parish of Northmeols aforesaid of the body of Ann Taberner single woman. WHEREAS it hath appeared unto us the said justices as well upon the complaint of the churchwardens and overseers of the Poor of the said parish Northmeols as upon the oath of the said Ann Taberner that the said Ann Taberner on the Second day of July now last past was delivered of a male bastard child at the parish of Northmeols aforesaid and that the said bastard child is likely to be chargeable to the said parish; and further, that John Wallace of North Meols in the said county Weaver did beget the said bastard child on the body of her the said Ann Taberner And whereas the said John Wallace hath appeared before us in pursuance of our summons for that purpose but hat not shewed any sufficient cause why he the said John Wallace shall not be the reputed father of the said Bastard Child We therefore, upon examination of the cause and circumstance of the premises as well upon the oath of the said Ann Taberner as otherwise, do hereby adjudge him the said John Wallace to be the reputed father of the said bastard child. And thereupon we do order, as well for the better relief of the said township of North Meols as for the sustentation and relief of the said bastard child, that the said John Wallace shall and do forthwith, upon notice of this our order pay or cause to be paid to the said churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the said parish or to some of them, the sum of one pound three shillings & Nine pence for and towards the lying-in of the said John Wallace and the maintenance of the said bastard child, to the time or making this our order. And we do also hereby further order, that the said John Wallace shall likewise pay or cause to be paid to the church wardens and overseers of the poor of the said parish for the time being, or to some or one of them, the sum of fifteen pence weekly and every week from the present time, for and towards the keeping, sustentation, and maintenance of the said bastard child for and during so long time as the said bastard child shall be chargeable to the said parish And we do further order that the said Ann Taberner shall also pay or cause to be paid to the said churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the said parish for the time being, or to some or one of them, the sum of fifteen pence weekly and every week, so long as the said bastard child shall be chargeable to the said parish in case she shall not nurse and take care of the said child herself.
