Notes
a. Note:   * disappeared in a blizzard on election day & was never found; presumed died of exposure. Stories that he was murdered by neighbors goes: William warned a neighboring family whose dogs ran deer, that if he saw the dog(s) do it again, he was going to shoot the dog(s). Neighbors threatened his life, and after he was missing, one of these neighbors supposedly told someone in the family, that they would never find his body since it had been dumped in the swamp. Years later, while working in the woods, the remains of William's gun were found, near a crude shelter and a pile of small animal bones. He probably was hurt (broken leg or such) and couldn't get home so did the best he could waiting for help which never came; his body was probably carried away by bear or wolf which were plentiful at that time.
