 He was a big man, over 6 feet tall and called by his father, one-armed Dick. Dick lost his arm when he was hit by a train while driving a wagon of corn across a railroad crossing in the Champaign - Urbana, IL area.
  
 Dick married a granddaughter of Big Chief Joe Brant, a chief of Mohawk Indians who was educated at Dartmouth. Dick'sfather by the way was called Duke.
