Text: (ABT 1 Oct 1914 - Shen Sentinal-Post) Misc. J S Maxted died at home 106 E Sheridan Ave Sun e e at 8 o'clock. In the forenoon about 11 he was stricken with apoplexy and lingered in an unconscious state till death completed its work and closed his earthly life. He had endeavoured to crank his auto standing before his door but failed and retired to the porch, where Axel Carlson and Louis Wells, next door neighbors discovered his condi- tion and carried him into the house. Mrs Maxted was in Clarinda at the time, caring for a sick sister. A car was dispatched for her immediately. The children were notified and before the day closed, all were present except to son living in Wyo. In this sudden and easy death, Mr Maxted departed just as he wished and expected. Fore he had sever- al times expressed the though that he would die suddenly. The funeral was held at the Meth church Wed at 12:30 and then the body will be taken to Riverton for interment be- side his wife and chil. Mr Maxted was born Sept 15, 1842 in Clinton, Oneida county, NY. At an early age of 16 yrs, he enlisted in the services of the Union as a member of Co C, 11th NY cavalry and was made dutyy sergeant of his company, and Oct 22, 1864, he was chosen orderly sergeant of Co L, same regiment, in shich office he served till the end of the war. In Nov 1863, he came home on a 6-wk fur- lough and was married to Miss Emma A Hart of Oneida county, NY. After the war he settled in Clinton as a harness maker. In 1876, he came to Riverton, Ia, and there followed his trade. He lived a while in Hamburg and also in Malvern, coming to Shen 3 yrs ago, siince which time he has, for the most part, worked for Chas. Denne. In early life he united with the Meth church. As the fruit of his first marriage, there were born 10 children, five of them now dead and five living. The first wife died at Riverton Sept 10, 1895. Later he married Miss Emma A Roscoe of Hamburg, who is left to mourn with the five children, all of whome are here to the funeral. They are Mrs DuVal from Omaha, Mrs Mumper from Tabor, Mr Hertle Maxted of Tabor, Grove Maxted of Randolph, and Newton Maxted from Sheridan, Wyo.

Text: (Oct 1, 1914 - Tabor Beaconn-Thurs) Mr Hertle Maxted and Mrs Ed Mumper were called to Shen last Sun by the serious illness of their father, Mr James Maxted, who died at 8 o'clock that evening of apoplexy. Funeral serv were held Wed at 12:30 in the Meth church at Shen. Interment was in the Riverton cem. The deceased was quite well known in Tabor.
