Notes
a. Note:   d died while attend-ing the installation of officers of the D of H & IOOF. She had been as well as usual but soon after getting into the Lodge room, complained of a terrible pain in her head. MrPhilbrick help-ed her into the ante-room & friends assisted her across the street to MrPerry's, but she was dead before they got outside the door. By request of the family MrsDr Lamb wrote the following obituary. MARY M ATKINSON was born 14 Jul 1849 in Rockford IL of sturdy old Pennsylvania pioneers. She moved with her parents to Rochester MN, where her childhhod was spent. In 1864 she went to live with an aunt in Warsaw WI where on 27 Jun 1866 she married MrBS Philbrick. Her tireless mother love was shared by 7 children, 6 of whom survive her. She was an active member in the IOGT, WCTU, WRC DofH Lodges at the moment of her death. Was a member of the WRC since its organization in the US & was President of the local corps for the past 2yrs. In the WCTU she never allowed weariness, over-taxed energies or social pleasurer to prevent her faithful attendance. As its superintendent of Flower Mission for 2yrs past, she carried or sent beautiful flowers, tokens of God's love, to very many who were "passing under the rod". The Rebekah degree of IOOF was conferred upon her by the subordinate lodge in 1878. From TwinMountains MI, she was transferrred to Arbutns Lodge DofH-215, Warsaw WI in 1882. She was transferrred to Alpine?? (paper fold distorted several lines of text) of Hoquiam in 1892. In whatever capacity she served she was faithful & energetic. Never seeking prominence, never shirking the burdens which oft times were heavy. Always striving to promote the interests of the Order to which she was devoted. She was a strong support to her associates in Alpine Lodge, in the ante room of which where she was laying her wraps, preparatory for the public installation services, sAttacked with a violent pain in her head; but entered the hall & spoke kind & loving words to friends she passed, then her distress becoming too great to endure, passed quietly out calling her husband to go with her, then with hardly a word, no moans or sigh, the life was called back to Him who gave it. The casket was empty, the gem was gone. The 5 sons & dau-Pearl were soon summoned & mourned over the mother who never before had failed to respond to their call. The funeral services were held at the ME Church conducted by Rev Wheeler, assisted by Revs Spence, Williams & Cobleigh. Among the large concourse assembled to honor her memory were the orders to which she belonged with the GAR & S of V in a long procession to the cemetery where at her grave the beautiful burial services were given by her sisters of Alpine Lodge.
