a. Note:   Was hit in the head with a rafter while helping build a house. Some believe that this may have contibuted to his "light strokes" which started around 1924. He had lost his first wife in 1919 and had remarried. This was about the time that Aunt Sue was born. In 1939, at age 59 he had a major stroke. He was found crawling in the mine. In 1941 he had a "bad stroke", Dr. Davinport reported that Grandpa Wood's blood pressure was " the highest that he had ever checked". Census 1910 Hopkins Co., KY Wood John W. H 29 KY Lillie A. W 25 KY Edna E. D 06 KY Verna E. S 05 KY Samuel V. S 03 KY John Wood, 70, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday at his home in Providence. Survivors are the wife, Edith; two sons, Leon of Providence and Virgil of Clay; three daughters, Mrs. W.H. Hill and Mrs. John Lee Brown of Providence and Mrs. Paul Barnes, Mt. Vernon, Ind.; three brothers, Ed and Ervin Wood, Dalton, and S.R. Wood, Providence; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home, with the Rev. Harry Raw of Henderson officiating. Burial was in Traylor cemetery in the Government section. The Journal Enterprise Providence, Kentucky Thursday, October 12, 1950
