TOPSHAM A Topsham man was killed Tuesday in what police describe as a tragic
accident, while tinkering on a pickup truck at home.
Lt. Christopher Lewis said Sam Petty, 64, of 421 Cathance Road was home alone
working on his pickup truck. He was underneath the rear of the truck, it appears,
when the vehicle fell from the jacks and landed on top of Petty, pinning him. His
wife later found him and called for help. Police received the call at 3:46 p.m.
Lewis said there are no signs of foul play and added, It was obviously a tragic accident.
Lewis said the state medical examiners office will determine a cause of death. There had
been no determination as of today.
