Note: Y RENFROE Abt. 1775 in Prob. Wilkes County, North Carolina, daughter of ENOCH RENFROE and RACHEL RUSHING. She was born Abt. 1754 in Prob. North Carolina. Notes for CLEMENT HANCOCK, SR.: First, let me make it clear that the names of the children listed for Clement Hancock and Mary Renfroe have not been documented by LW&T or land deed. A lot of circumstantial evidence has been gathered which strongly indicates that those names listed were his children. The dates of birth for these children have been deduced from census records and other documents which indicate the probable years of birth entered on the family page. There were no doubt other children, perhaps more daughters, born between William and John, but I haven't found enough evidence to list any more. jrh A SEARCH FOR THE ANCESTORS OF CLEMENT Although I haven't found a positive connection between Clement Hancock, Sr. of Georgia and Clement Hancock of Surry County, Virginia, I feel sure that there is a connection of some kind. Clement Hancock of Virginia was in Lawnes Creek Parish as early as 1725 at which time there is on record a land purchase. His wife's name was Antheny and they had nine children. These children are named in Clement's will dated October 31, 1758. This will was presented at court on January 19, 1759 by Clement's wife Antheny who was executrix of the will along with son William, executor. Clement had a son also named Clement who died the year following the death of his father. I have found no records of this son Clement having a son named Clement Hancock. He had a daughter, Susannah, who died very young about the time that her father died. However, Clement and Antheny Hancock's son, William, had four children: Elisha Green, born February 15, 1766; Clement, born August 22, 1770; Michael Wall Hancock; and Elisabeth Hancock, born October 27, 1776. (See below for the genealogy of the Surry County, VA Clement Hancock) Clement Hancock, born August 22, 1770, would have been too young to be the Clement Hancock who married Mary Renfroe and lived in Georgia from the 1780's. The Georgia Clement was already married with children in 1770.
