Gregory was born in Mississippi CHILD NOTES: robert gregory ----------------------------------------- Of Gregory interest: Message from Annette R. Stanfield to Linda Carnes 3/27/2002 Linda, I just now found your message from Oct., 2001, about Andrew Gregory. I'm sorry I didn't see it sooner. The information you give, more or less coincides with someting a man told me at the Gregory cemetary, in La Pine, Al. The story was almost the same......the family was from Tennessee------they came to Alabama. the woman drove a covered wagon from Tennessee. They went from Ala. , to Mississippi---for some reason the brothers had come back to Alabama , and stayed.( I have NO DOCUMENTATION for this. The man said his phone # was on the gate , and left. there was no # there---another person had the same experience) My grgranpa William H. Gregory ( one of the brothers)was born in 1847, according to his headstone. Some censuses have him born in 1844. The next grave from him is John Andrew Gregory b. 1843. I believe they were brothers. The two were in Alabama, for the civil war. William enlisted when he was about 17 yrs old. I have a copy of his enlistment and discharge papers. The John Andrew who is buried there married Jemmie Bradley, and a lot of his descendants are there, also. If this sounds like your ancestor, I'll be happy to share what I have. I can't find any ancestors for my William, tho there are a couple of Gregories in Butler/Crenshaw Co. area of Ala. about 1870 that have sons named William the same age as mine. Does Algernon Gregory or Ruffin Gregory sound familiar to you ? Algernon was 12 years older than William, but I don't know the relation. My William and his wife had a baby named Algernon , who died. Ruffin Gregory was from Mississippi, and had a son named William the same age as mine...I can't prove an exact relation. Ruffin did show up in a census very near La Pine....and very near William and John Andrew. I don't mean to ramble, but I hope there is a connection here. --- Message from Annette R. Stanfield to Linda Carnes 3/29/2002 William H. Gregory ( 1847-1902)and Martha Moye were my grtgranparents. As for the man in the cemetary , I could tell you a couple of things in regard to the cemetaries, that would make you think I need to be institutionalized.....There have been at least four hair raising incidents, and I experienced only one of them , myself. So if I'm crazy, I'm not alone. It was extremely odd to me, that the man in the cemetary was almost a mirror image to a photo that I have of William. (oooooooeeeeeeeeoooooooo!!!!!) I'm keeping your posts, I believe there might be a remote connection. The only time I have found Algernon is in a Bradleyton census. He was 12 years older than William H., but I don't know if he's related, or how. I'm still working on the censuses for that area.....I have "Images Online". I have found records of a Ruffin Gregory , who died in the late 1900's, up north. I too found Ruffin and his wife Mary ( 1800's)...even marriage records in Choctaw Co. (?) Miss. The Bradley connection is very relevent, too. On one census somene sent me for William and Martha ,there was an "Alice Bradley, relative " listed. None of us can figure out who Alice was. I also have seen mention of a "William Gregory and his Indian family"around Montgomery , Al. , in the late 1700's/early 1800's . That was in Major Woodard's accounts of his experiences with the Indians , and was in "Among the Creeks", online. I found nothing more about that William.
