Note: BIOGRAPHY: He married Mary Williamson. She is the daughter of William D. Williamson Jr.
and Martha Martin. In the 1790 Wilmington District, Brunswick Co., N.C. census, Mary Rhodes
is head of family with one single son, James. Next door is another son, John Rhodes with wife
and two daughters. In 1800 Brunswick Co., N.C. census, James Rhodes 16-26, wife 16-26, one
son and one daughter both under ten. Next door is brother John Rhodes, age 26-45, wife 26-45,
four sons under ten, one daughter 10-16, two daughters under 10. Their mother, Mary Rhodes is
listed on Brunswick census. The 1810 census of Brunswick and Columbus,John and James Rhodes
is on neither. The census enumerator may have missed them. Columbus County was created in 1808
from Brunswick and Bladens counties. The 1820 Columbus County census shows James Rhodes,Sr., 45
and over, wife 26-55, two sons 16-26, two sons 10-16, two sons under 10, one daughter 16-26,
one daughter under 10. Also was brother John, son James Jr., a William Rhodes (maybe son of John).
On 1830 Columbus census, James Rhodes, Sr. is not listed. His wife is living with their son,
James Jr. Two other sons of James Sr. were listed William and Samuel. John Rhodes nor any of
his family were listed on the 1830 census.William, James Jr., and Samuel Rhodes all left Columbus
County, N.C.about 1835. William and James Jr., went to Pike Co, Alabama. Samuel went to Georgia
and then to Alabama in 1850.
