Note: Stephen served in the French and Indian War in 1758 and 1762. Stephen served as a sergeant in Captain Simeon Hazeltine's company of Minute-men in the early days of the Revolutionary War, he marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775. He served for 16 days including travel and then he was reported returned home. He later served as an ensign in Captain Samuel Billings' Company, Col. Ebenezer Learned's Regiment. He was on the list of commissions made by the Provincial Congress 23 May 1775. He was also an Ensign in same company and regiment on the muster roll 1 Aug 1775. Service was 3 months 2 days. He was a Lieutenant in Col Brooks regiment, with Continental Army pay accounts for service from 1 Jan 1777 to 5 Dec 1777. He was reported in a regiment lately commanded by Ichabod Alden on a list of officers in camp before 15 Aug 1777. He was certified at Cherry Valley 24 Feb 1779. He served again joining 17 Sep 1778 and discharged 12 Dec 1778 serving 3 months 2 days.
