  Her Grandfather, David Stiefel, was the son of John James Stiefel, who procured a grant of 100 acres of land in the Hillsboro Township of Long Cane, bounded by lands of Henry Dreyer, Henry Casper, William Strother and Ebenezer Wescott, 3 Apr 1869. John James received pay for militia duty and property lost during the Revolution. Recorded in Stud Entries to Indents Book U. W., 10 U. The entry on the stub spells the name Stiffle but his receipt is Steifel. This information concerning John James was given by Mr. A. S. Salley, State Historian. Mary was known for her hospitality, piety and love of children. Many a weary knight of the saddle-bags found rest and refreshment in the home of Isaac and Mary.
