  Mrs. Betty Dorn Shaffer passed away Monday night, 12 Apr 1937, at the age of 84 years. She joined McKendree Methodist Church in her early girlhood and was a consecrated christian. She taught the Children's Depertmant of the Church School until a few years before her death. Being one of the oldest residents of the community, when anyone sought information concerning the Ouzts family, it was a common saying, "we will ask cousin Betty, she will know, and in this way a bit of information was gleaned that otherwise would have been lost." Left a widow with small children, she reared them in an atmosphere where altar fires were kept burning. She sleeps in the Shaffer cemetery near the church but her influence lives on, an inspiration to friends and loved ones.
