  Attended Edgefield Academy and South Carolina College (now South Carolina University). While in college he purchased an interest in the Edgefield Chronicle newspaper and became its Editor. Later selling his interest and moved to Rome GA, purchasing an interest in the Rome Bulletin and later to Anniston AL to be city editor of the Anniston Hot Blast, a daily newspaper. He lived in Birmingham AL for a few years where he worked as a reporter for The Age Herald.
  Returning to Edgefield, he served as a deputy sheriff under his brother William H. Ouzts and later associated with The Charleston World newspaper in Charleston and later in Columbia associated with The Columbia Daily Record. Grew to be a distinguished citizen of South Carolina, served in both houses of the SC legislature. Made unsuccessful attempts to election as Governor of SC in 1926 and to the US Congress in 1932. Organized the American Bank of Greenwood in 1920 and was connected with it until it was closed during the depression.
  He organized the Ouzts Family Association and served as President for as long as his health allowed.
  Obituary :
  Greenwood SC Dec 29 [1946] - Funeral services for D.A.G. Ouzts former state senator from Greenwood County will be held at the First Baptist Church here Tuesday afternoon. Burial in the Magnolia Cemetery. Mr. Ouzts died in his home in Waxahachie TX, Saturday afternoon [Dec 28 1946] after a long illness. He was a native of Edgefield County and was 83 years old last Thursday [Dec 26]. Mr Ouzts attended the South Carolina College, now the University of South Carolina and in 1885 became part owner and editor of the Edgefield Chronicle. After a few years he moved to Texas and spent several years there, returning to South Carolina in 1892. He was admitted to the bar the following year and located in Greenwood in 1899. He was elected state senator from Greenwood County in 1925; was elected a member of the House in 1930, again in 1932, and for a third term in 1934. He was an unsuccessful canidate for governor in 1926 and was candidate for congress for the third district in 1932. Mr Ouzts was a prominent Mason and had held many offices in the order. About five years ago he returned to Texas, locating in Waxahachie. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ouzts of Waxahachie and by two step children, Mrs. Frances Lomax, Waxahachie, and J. M. Cumby, Dallas, Texas.
