  Baptist minister, unmarried. He was educated at Furman University and the Theological Seminary at Louisville. He was pastor of New Prospect, Boiling Spring, Mt. Calvary (now Inman First), and Mt. Zion. The Churches composing this field, acting as a unit, called Rev. J. L. Ouzts, of Edgefield, SC, and he entered into the pastoral relations January, 1896, and since that day his life and energies have been given to the people of this immediate section, covering a period of a quarter of a century. Besides the churches above named, he also was pastor at different times of New Pisgah, Saxon, Holly Spring and Compobello, and at the time of his death was pastor of Walnut Hill and Gowansville.

   Spartanburg SC, Sept. 28 [1920] –The Rev. J. L. Ouzts, prominent Baptist minister, died at a local hospital last night after an illness of only a few hours with heart disease. He had been pastor of various churches in Spartanburg county for the past 20 years and was admired and loved all over the Piedmont section. He is survived by only one relative, so far as is known, a nephew from Greenwood, who is expected to arrive here today to take charge of the remains. The State (Columbia SC), September 29, 1920.
