  He was killed at Chickamauga GA, during the Civil War, leaving his wife and five children according to the petition for Letters of Administration made by his widow.
  Elias DeVore, husband of Martha, applied for letters of Guardianship for his sister-in-law Sallie and his brother-in-law James Caraway, on 27 Feb 1875. [Box 96, Pkg. 3909, Edgefield Co. Records]
  He was buried at Chattanooga Confederate Cemetery (Also known as: Confederate Cemetery) in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee. Many of the Confederate soldiers were buried as unknown when their bodies were exhumed from the battlefields after the war.
