The death of Mrs. Emily McDowell occured very suddenly Tuesday night last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J E Dorn. On Saturday, Mrs. McDowell came from her home in the Mt. Creek Section to make a visit to her daughters, Mrs W Q (sic) Lewis and Mrs. J E Dorn and children. Wednesday she had planned to spend with a granddaughter, but God had planned that she spend the day with Him in the new home. On retiring Tuesday, she complained of hurting in the chest and asked for a linament to rub the pain. Later she complained again of the pain and sat up in the bed and applied the medicine with her own hands. She asked her daughter to "lay me down" and immediately the death angel came and gently without a struggle the spirit took its flight. Mrs. McDowell was a good woman. She joined the church in early life and lived her religion humble, meek and quiet, always interested in the spiritual welfare of others and the upbuilding of her Master's kingdom. She had lived her three score years and ten and more, being 79 years old. And like the beautiful autumn leaves. She was ripe and ready to go - ready for the crown of righteousness awaiting the faithful. The paid tender and loving tributes of worth ot her character and spoke of her as one that comforted them. Her body was laid to rest beside the loved husband who had preceded her 13 years to the spirit world. Many sorrowing friends and kindred stood with the weeping children around her grave. Ten children - five sons and five daughters with grandchildren and great grandchildren wept with sad hearts because whe would go in and out nomore amongst them, for they loved her. The floral tributes were beautiful. Her grave and the one by her side were covered with flowers. One especially pretty design was a pillow of white chrysanthemums with "Mother" delicately woven with green ferns across the center. We extend our deepest sympathies to the loved ones. Index Journal.
