L. DeVore, “My life is not worth the price I am paying”, William H. Ouzts, 62, chain gang guard, shot himself through the head at the county camp early today and died in a hospital three hours later. He had been in ill health for some time but was in good spirits last night and this morning. Mr. Ouzts was a farmer for many years in the Kirksey section and six years ago was appointed a chain gang guard. He is survived by one son, E. W. Ouzts of Kirksey; three sisters, Mrs. Lula Lee, Spartanburg, Mrs. Mollie Freehand, Epworth, and Mrs. Lizzie Shirer, Whitmier; three brothers, J. B. Ouzts, Newberry, W. E. Ouzts, Savannah, and John Ouzts, Colorado; a half brother, J. M. Buzhardt, Kirksey.
