John Henry Ouzts enlisted in the Confederate Army when he was 16, August 25 1861. Company K, 14th SC Infantry Volunteers. Wounded at the battle of Jones House at Petersburg. He was present at Appamattox Court House when Gen. Lee surrendered to Gen. Grant.
Relocated to LA in about 1870 and farmed there. The clerk of the court at Bienville LA called John Henry "a worthy old veteran, a good citizen and one of the most deserving men of Bienville Parish".
