Note: Served in the US Army Airforce. *** Newspaper article: Ralph Harris Dies Today Ralph L. Harris, 54, 2802 I street, passed away at 5:00 a.m. today at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis, where he entered January 15, this year. Mr. Harris, a painter, had been ill for three months. He was born in Martin County on January 11, 1904, to Phillip and Ethel Smith Harris. He was married to Doris Williams on July 18, 1923. Survivors include the mother, Mrs. Ethel Harris of Bedford; three sons - Wayne Harris of Haysville, Kansas, Smith Harris and George Harris, both of Bedford; two daughters - Mrs. Mildred Cox and Mrs. Rosalie Terry, both of Bedford; six grandchildren, and three brothers - Claude of Washington, D. C., Carl of New Hampshire, and Glen of Bedford. One son preceded him in death. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford and served with the U. S. Air Force during World War II. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Elmwood Chapel of Day and Carter Mortuary, with burial in Cresthaven Memorial Park. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Day and Carter Mortuary, which is in charge of arrangements. **** Ralph Harris Rites Conducted Final rites for Ralph L. Harris, 2802 I street, were held at 2:00 p.m. yesterday at Elmwood Chapel of Day and Carter Mortuary, with Rev. Richard Kern, pastor of Englewood Baptist Church and Rev. H. Gordon Hyde, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Harris passed away at 5:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis, where he had Entered January 15, this year. "Near To The Heart Of God" was sung by Mrs. Ancil Crockett during the service. Organ accompaniment was provided by Mrs. Irvin Mann, chapel organist. Military rites were accorded at graveside by members of Gillen Post No. 33. American Legion. Participating were William Emerson, captain; Kenneth Stone, Chaplain; John Yenne, bugler; Robert Brown, Jim Fisher, Frank Cezar, Ray Allen, William Tovey and Leo McGill, firing squad; Frank Swango, Howard Riley, Jim Greenwell and Charles Cates, color guard; Kenneth Plummer, Jr., and David Burton, color bearers. Pallbearers were William Bartlett, Earl Roberts, Eddie Harrison, Russell Johnson, Doyle Simmons and Wayne Anderson.
