Ethel Harris Dies At Dunn
Ethel Harris, 2802 I Street, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital where she was admitted February 24. She was 77.
Mrs. Harris was born September 28, 1881, in Martin County, Indiana, to McClure and Mary Barker Smith. She was married to Phillip Harris on August 19, 1897, at Shoals, Indiana, and he preceded her in death February 26, 1953. The had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1947.
Survivors include three sons - Glen Harris of Bedford, Carl Harris of Portsmouth, N.H., and Claude Harris of Washington, D. C.; several grandchildren and great - grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Charles Baldwin of Bedford; three brothers - Fred Smith of Ottumwa, Iowa, P. E. Smith of Indianapolis, and Hobert Smith of Toledo, Ohio.
Two sons, Ivan and Ralph, and a daughter, May, have preceded her in death. In addition, one sister, Mrs. Ida Clifton, and three brothers - Walter, Clyde and Ralph Smith - have preceded her in death.
She organized, and was a member of, the Nursery Mothers Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford where she was head of the cradle roll department for 37 years. She organized and was a member of the Primary Mothers Club, and was a member of the Missionary Society and the W. C. T. U.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. H. Gordon Hyde, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. today at the Ferguson & Speer Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements. The remains will be taken to the church at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday to lie in state until the funeral hour.
