Virgil E. Williams

Virgil E. Williams, 82, Route 8, died at 3:15 a.m. today at Bartholomew County Hospital after a one-year illness. A retired florist, he moved to Columbus seven years ago from the Alert and North Vernon areas.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Vernon Shepherd at 1 p.m. Friday at Reed and Jewell Funeral Home, where persons may call after 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Daugherty Cemetery.
Williams was born Sept. 3, 1897, in Jennings County, to S.V. and Frances Holsclaw Williams. He lived his early life in Bedford and was a World War I veteran and a Free Pentecostal Church member.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche Carter Crouch Williams; a son, John Williams, a retired Army colonel living in Ireland; a brother, Vernon H. Williams, for whom no address was known; two sisters, Mrs. H.C. Crater of Columbus and Doris Harris, for whom no address was known and several grandchildren and great-grand-children.
