  Martha Smith Ballengee, 71, of 236 Crystal Lane, wife of the late Harold E. Ballengee, Sr. died Saturday, December 27, 2008.
  Mrs. Ballengee was born in Prince Georges County, Md., a daughter of the late James Clinton and Mary Louise Morrison Smith. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
  Survivors include daughters, Margaret Smith (David) of Surf City, N.C., Laura Woodall (Henry) of Douglasville, Ga., and Debbie Banks (Billy) of Pickens; and a son, John Ballengee (Debra) of Dallas, Ga.; 20 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
  In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ballengee was preceded in death by sons, Harold Eugene Ballengee, Jr. and Donald Lee Smith.
  Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008, in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home, Pickens, S.C. Burial will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga, Tenn. on Wednesday, December 30, 2008, at 11:30 a.m.

  Joseph Franklin Smith of Clinton, Maryland, died on Friday, September 13, 2013 at his residence. He was 68 years old.
  Born on April 5, 1945 in Piscataway, MD, he was the son of the late Mary L. Morris and the late James Clinton Smith. Affectionately known as “Joe” and “Shorty”, Mr. Smith was a painter with the Prince George’s County School Board with over 30 years of several before retiring. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, drivers Dale Earnhart Sr. and Dale Earnhart Jr., and the Washington Redskins. He enjoyed cars, especially Chevys, as well as fishing and spending time with family and friends.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 10 siblings, including James Norris Smith and James Clinton Smith.
  He is survived by his wife Linda Bracey; his son Daniel Smith; his step-daughters Kelly Bracey and Terri Kerth; his step-son William Patrick Bracey; his sisters Evelyn Gates, Florence McEntee, Frances Richman, Margaret Pickeral and Elizabeth “Sissy” Canter; also survived by several grandchildren, nieces, including Penny Evans, nephews, including Johnny and Tony Smith, as well as other relatives and friends.
  Visitation on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 2PM to 4PM and from 6PM to 8PM with Services at 7PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.

  Born on April 9, 1944 in Brandywine, MD, she was the daughter of the late Mary Louise Smith and James Clinton Smith. Frances is survived by her children: William L. Willett (Carrie) of Mechanicsville, MD, Andrew A. Burroughs (June) of Lexington Park, MD, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Siblings: Margaret Pickerel, Evelyn Gates, Florence Macanlee, and Elizabeth Canter. She was preceded in death by her son Eugene M. Willett, Jr, siblings: Norris Smith, Martha Ballengee, James Smith, Joe Smith, Catherine Cheseldine, Mary Slaughter, William Smith, and Cindy Smith. She graduated from Surratsville High School in 1962 and moved from Accokeek, MD to St. Mary’s County MD in 1967.
  Frances was self-employed in home care, helping people in their homes with household chores, taking care of the sick and elderly. Frances enjoyed gardening, helping those in need, her miniature Pomeranian “Max”, visiting with friends, spending time with her special friend David Saxon, and her grandchildren.
  The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD.
  A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop William McClean officiating.
  Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD.

  Elizabeth Marion Canter (nee Smith), 89, formerly of Hughesville, MD departed this life on Saturday, May 25, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.
  Elizabeth was born March 14, 1930, in Piscataway, MD to the late James Clinton and Mary Louise Smith. She was third in line of eighteen (18) children.
  Elizabeth married Sidney Wilson Canter, Sr. in 1949. Together they celebrated over 46 years of marriage until his passing in January 1995.
  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all that she knew.
  She proudly served and retired, after 27 years of service, from the Prince George’s County Board of Education. After she retired, Elizabeth loved spending time with her family vacationing and doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  Elizabeth is survived by her four loving children, Beverly Dawkins (the late Wilbert), Linda Magarity (Gregory), Sidney Wilson, Jr. (Betty) and Wanda Deavers (Warren); eight (8) grandchildren, and eleven (11) great-grandchildren survive Elizabeth. She is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Gates (David) and Margaret Pickeral (Hilton). Along with her parents, Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Canter, Sr. and numerous brothers and sisters.
  Family and friends are invited to Elizabeth’s Life Celebration on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Interment will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.

  Florence Mae (Smith) McEntee
  Florence Mae (Smith) McEntee, 76, of Lehman Township, passed away Aug. 8, 2016, while visiting family in Warner Robins, Georgia, after fighting a long and tough battle with lung cancer. Florence was known by her friends and family as "Floey Mae" and her grandchildren called her "Mom-Mom."
  Born in Waldorf, Md., she was one of 17 children born to the late James Smith and Mary Louise Morris. Florence was a graduate of Gwynn Park High School. She married William McEntee in 1960 and moved to Lehman Township, where they raised five children together. Florence worked for 22 years as a cafeteria worker in the Lake-Lehman School District from 1987 to 2009. She truly enjoyed her job working with the students. She was an active supporter of the LL Band from 1991-2006.
  Florence was a member of St. Therese's Church, Shavertown, from the 1970s through the present.
  Florence was strong and compassionate, and cared deeply for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener throughout her life and found joy through cooking homemade meals. She cooked for many holidays and summer picnics, where she cherished time with family and friends. She loved traveling with her family. Such events and vacations will not be the same without her.
  William, Florence's husband of 55 years, passed in February 2016, and she missed him dearly. Together, they experienced the loss of an infant, Bill Jr., who they spoke of being with again someday. Her family has confidence that the three of them are happily reunited in Heaven.
  Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, husband and child are seven brothers and six sisters.
  Surviving are her children, Richard and wife Karen, Dallas; Linda Williams and husband, Jeff, Georgia; Mary Kohler, Phoenixville; John McEntee and wife, Doreen, Georgia; Ben McEntee and wife, Kara, Bear Creek; grandchildren, Alyssa, Joshua, Zachary, William, Ashleigh, Rebecca, Samantha, Steven, Eric, Daniel, Michael and Jeremiah; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Marcus, Jillian, Urijah, Ryan, Brenna, William and Angel; sisters, Evelyn, Margaret and Elizabeth.
  We will remember Florence as a loving mother, caring "Mom-Mom," and loyal friend. She was truly a special lady and will be greatly missed.
  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in St. Therese's Church, Pioneer Avenue and Davis Street, Shavertown. Private interment will be at the convenience of family. Friends may call Friday, Aug. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harold C. Snowdon, Home for Funerals Inc., 420 Wyoming Ave., Kingston.
