  Kelly Lee Holder
Kelly Lee Holder, 35, of Alum Creek reached out and joined hands with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Hospice House of Huntington Thursday, March 8, 2007, at 11:40 p.m. after a formidable battle with leukemia. The leukemia might have crushed his body, but Kelly had the final victory. He would have been 36 on March 9. How fitting that he was reborn in Heaven shortly before his birthday.
Kelly was born at Charleston on March 9, 1971.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, "Nanny" Novella McClary; grandfather, Wallace McClary; grandfather, Howard Holder; and cousin, Tommy Holder.
He graduated from Duval High School in 1989 and from Carver Electronics School. He completed Sound Engineering School, performed sound for the singing group, Barnabas, and was a soundman at Gateway Church of Christ. In addition, he completed a four-year apprentice school with the electricians union, was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and was the maintenance supervisor, "the Man," at Tasty Blend Foods. He was a member of Gateway Church of Christ.
Kelly was most known for his beautiful smile and dancing brown eyes, which lit up every room he entered. He became an outstanding photographer, leaving lasting memories with many wedding couples in the Valley. Friends knew they could call on him for assistance whether it was electrical, or any type of construction. While many homes throughout the Kanawha Valley have his physical touch, it was his spiritual touch that remains in the hearts and minds of thousands who were inspired as they learned of his daily battle with leukemia. Although he knew the disease was incurable, he never gave up. Through countless rounds of chemo, full body radiation and a stem cell transplant, he displayed the heart and spirit of Christ with his uncomplaining, courageous attitude. Thousands around the country, and even the world, left daily messages on KellyHolder.com, testifying to his influence. He loved most spending time with his friends and family and eating out. He was the "real deal."
Left to cherish his memory are the love of his life, Lori Rushbrook Holder; loving parents, Richard and Carole Holder of Tornado; grandmother, Elizabeth "Granny" Defibaugh; brothers, Allen (Kim) Holder of Alum Creek and Craig Holder of Redding, Calif.; uncle and aunt, Howard and Janice Holder of Milford, Ohio; nephew, Samuel Holder; niece, Amanda Holder; greatest in-laws, Eddie and Bonny Rushbrook of Scott Depot; brothers-in-law, Patrick and David Rushbrook; sister-in-law, Carly Rushbrook; special friends, Tina and Troy Workman of Tornado; and angel friend, Kim Matthews.
Special thanks go to the nurses, doctors and friends at Ruby Memorial Hospital, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Hospice of Huntington. Thank you, Dr. Daniels, Kim Robertson and Tim Beach, for making Kelly's passing so spiritual and peaceful.
Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at Gateway Church of Christ, 422 B St., St. Albans, with Kim Matthews officiating and Pastor Dave assisting. Burial will be in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Rosenbaum House, c/o Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV 26506, or Hospice House of Huntington, 3011 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV 25702.
