Mitchell from her first marriage. *** Martin County Tribune XLV-3 Loogootee, Indiana Thursday, September 12, 1923 Martha Andis Harris, daughter of Elijah and Hannah Andis, was born January 4th, 1850 and died August 27, 1923 at the age of seventy-three years and 7 months. She was married twice, the first time to David Mitchell who died June 12th 1874. To this union were born two children, Levi, who resides in Louisiana and Lilburn who died in infancy. In 1876 she was united in marriage to John Harris and to this union were born five children, Marion of Odon, Elijah and Newton of near Burns City, Henry of Malden, Missouri and Mrs. Hannah Taylor of Bedford. She also leaves to mourn their loss one sister, Mrs. Julia Wagoner of Elnora and one brother A. F. Andis of Burns City, forty grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends. She was a member of the Boggs creek Baptist church since she was sixteen years of age and lived a good Christian life. She will be sadly missed by her friends and relatives but their loss is her gain, and almost her last words to her family were to meet her in Heaven. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Neal of Bloomington. She was buried in Burns City Thursday August 31 in the Williams cemetery. *** Newspaper Article: Obituary. Mrs. Martha Harris The death of Mrs/ Martha Harris, age seventy three years, a member of Bogg's Creek church since sixteen years of age, occurred at the home of her sister in Elnora on Monday, August 27, 1923. She was the widow of the late John Harris and was born January 4, 1850. She leaves to mourn her loss six children and five step children, scores of other relatives and friends who will miss her kind words, her upright example, her ministering hand, as she went far and near helping the sick and sorrowing. During the long years of Christian service her faith never wavered and her testimony in her dying hours of her joy and comfort in going Home gave evidence of her firm trust in her Savior. Rev. W. J. Neal of Stanford, her pastor twenty eight years ago, delivered the funeral message, commenting upon her great interest in the furtherance of the Gospel Missions, the work of the Bedford Association, and her hope of Heaven. The large number attending the funeral gave silent evidence of the high esteem in which she was held. She was the widow of John Harris who passed away several years ago. She leaves a number of children and near relatives who with a large circle of friends mourn her demise.
