  Carl Harris, 59, a former Bedford resident, died Monday night in a hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He had lived in Portsmouth several years.
  He was born to Phillip and Ethel Smith Harris who are deceased.
  He is survived by his wife, Christina; a son Carl Jr.; two brothers, Glen K. of Bedford and Claude W. of Washington, D.C.; several nieces and nephews.
  Two brothers, Ralph and Ivan and one sister, May, preceded him in death.
  He was a veteran of World War Two, having served in the U.S. Navy.
  Funeral services and burial will be held in Portsmouth.

  Carl L. Harris
  Carl L. Harris, 59, of 212 Woodbury Ave., died today at Portsmouth Hospital following a short illness.
  He was born March 7, 1911, in Bedford, Ind., the son of Phillip and Ethel (Smith) Harris.
  For the past 20 years, Mr. Harris was a resident of Portsmouth. He owned and operated Harris Decorating Co. here and was a U.S. Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean conflict.
  Family members include his wife, Mrs. Christine (Verna) Harris; one son, Carl E. Harris of Michigan City, Ill.; two brothers, Claude W. Harris of Washington, D.C., and Glen K. Harris of Bedford, Ind.; one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

  Funeral services for Carl L. Harris, 59, of 212 Woodbury Ave., were held today from his home.
  The Rev. Joseph Shields and the Rev. Paul Daneault, both of St. Catherine's Church, officiated.
  In attendance were City Councilman William F. Keefe and personnel from the comptroller department of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
  Burial was in the family lot at Calvary Cemetery, with Father Shields conducting committal services.
  Military services were conducted. A firing squad from U.S. Marine Barracks at the shipyard fired a volley.
  Taps were sounded by Cpl. Robert Bergquist. The flag draping the casket was folded and presented to the widow.
  Bearers were Joseph Verna, Michael Canino, James Collins, John Collins Jr., John Collins Sr. and Frederick Gallagher.
