  DEATH OF W. V. KING
One of Franklin's Most Respected Citizens Gone to reward of His Labors.
William Vawter King died at his home on North Main street in this city, last Tuesday morning at 10:15 o'clock, aged sixty years and two months. Death was due to tuberculosis.
Mr. King was born in Jennings county, near North Vernon on September 28, 1848. He was the son of George and Frances King, and boyhood days were spent on the farm at home where he was taught the fundamental principles of all things necessary to become an honest, right American citizen.
He began teaching school at the age of twenty years and continued this vocation for fifteen years.
He was married to Miss Carrie Vandivier, daughter of Joseph Vandivier on June 19, 1878, and for twelve years lived on a farm near Bargersville.
In the fall of 1891 Mr. and Mrs. King moved to Franklin, and Mr. King entered into the real estate business with W. R. Clore. He continued this business for about two years. Later he was employed by J. M. Dunlap, and in 1900 he formed a partnership with Mr. Dunlap whom he was associated at the time of his death.
At the age of thirteen years he became a member of the Christian church and during his entire life in the church he had been earnest and faithful worker. He was well educated and a deep student of the bible, being able to discuss intelligently any subject of bible history. For many years he had been a teacher in the Christian Sunday school and a member of the official board. Being a carful and prudent manager his advice was sought on many occasions.
Mr. King's illness dates back several years when he became afflicted with bronchial catarrh which developed to tuberculosis about two years ago. But he was uncomplaining through it all. He had gone to his farm about six weeks ago to take a much needed rest, when he fell from his barn loft sustaining injuries that only served to hasten the work of the disease with which he was afflicted.
Mr. King, as a citizen, was a man of good character. Kindly and charitable and never faltering in his efforts toward the uplifting of mankind and the moral interest of the community.
Many were the expressions of sorrow heard along the street when his death was announced Tuesday.
Mr. King's father died when he was but ten years old, but those who are left to morn with the widow, are his mother Mrs. Frances King of North Vernon, who is eighty-fur years old, a sister Mrs. Almira Holsclaw also of North Vernon, and a brother E. G. King of Lincoln, Neb.
The funeral services will be held this morning in the Christian tabernacle conducted by Rev. R. E. Moss, after which the remains will be taken to First Mt. Pleasant, where a short service will be held in the church and the casket will be opened that his old friends and neighbors may view his remains. The funeral cortege will arrive at Mt. Pleasant between 11 and 12 o'clock.
