  PORTSMOUTH — Christine V. Harris, 96, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the Edgewood Centre.
  Born Dec. 20, 1915, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of James and Mary (Taccetta) Verna and was a lifelong resident there. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1933. During World War II, she volunteered as a Gray Lady at Portsmouth Hospital.
  Christine was employed at Taccetta Chevrolet and retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1976, with 30 years of service in the planning department and comptroller office.
  She was an active member of Saint Catherine of Siena Church and the Women's Club.
  Survivors include her sister, Gloria Collins of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews, notably her nephew John 'Jack' Collins his wife, Abbie, and grandnephew Tyler Collins of East Rochester.
  The widow of Carl L. Harris, who died in 1970, she was also predeceased by her brother, Joseph "Mickey" Verna.
  SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at Saint Catherine Church, 845 Woodbury Ave., Portsmouth. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Parish, 2075 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, NH 03801, or to the charity of one's choice.
