Note: e of his wedding he is described as an importer and on the probate records as a commercial traveller. The Sands and MacDougall Directory for Victoria records in 1920 Ernest living at Adelaide St Murrumbeena and in 1926 living at 712 Dandenong Rd Murrumbeena. By 1927 it records only his widow at that address. Mr E A Rice 33, softgoods business, arrived in London from Melbourne on the "Moreton Bay" on 24 Jul 1922. Ernest A Rice aged 34 warehouseman, sailed from London for Melbourne on the "Hobson's Bay" on 7 Nov 1922. Mr Ernest Rice 35, warehouseman, arrived in London from Melbourne on the "Jarvis Bay" on 15 Sep 1923. He must have collapsed on board ship or soon after arriving in London. According to his death certificate and autopsy, he was suffering from a brain tumour and had lapsed into a coma. His uncle Sidney Neilson Rice was apparently sent from Australia and arrived in London on 6 Oct 1923 to attend him. The time taken for Sidney to arrange his travel would suggest that Ernest's collapse occurred at least 3 weeks before the 6th of October ie while Ernest was on board ship. Sidney sailed for Melbourne on 27 Nov 1923 having completed the arrangements. The address for Ernest and Sidney in London was 3 Lovelace Rd, Surbiton, Surrey (London). The 1914 Electoral Roll registers at Murrumbeena Rd, Murrumbeena, Victoria, Ernest Arthur Rice, warehouseman, and (wife) Lillian May Rice, home duties. The 1919 Electoral Roll registers at "Verdun", Adelaide St Murrumbeena, Ernest Arthur Rice, warehouseman, and (wife) Lillian May, home duties. At the time of his death he was a player and vice-president of the Caulfield Lacrosse Club.
