A tribute was written by the people of the First Calvary Baptist Church upon her death. It reads:
"A Tribute to our beloved teacher, Mary G. Gumb, who passed to her Heavenly Home Sunday March 5, 1978.
Mary became a member of First Calvary Church in 1942. Shortly after her association with our church she began teaching in
the Young Peoples Department. When Bertha Keef retired from teaching our class, which we believe was in 1957, Mary became our teacher. She guided us in Christian teachings for twenty years, then, she had to retire because of ill health.
Mary not only worked in the Church School, but was most active in many phases of the Church's program. She was a Deaconess for many years, and her visits to the shut-ins, and bereaved, were greatly appreciated. Many times she even walked a goodly distance to see them and bring cheer, encouragement and comfort.
Mary was also greatly interested in Missions and the Missionary programs of our church and the Merrimack Valley Baptist Women. Our class could never lose its Missionary mindness because of her enthusiasm.
The Womens Federation was another phase in Mary's church life, and this organization has benefited by her interest and active part in its programs.
Mary was a devoted Christian and a true follower of Christ. We Willing Workers shall miss her presence and as our final tribute we say:
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter, thou, into the joy of the Lord." Matthew 25:21.
"Sleep on, beloved, sleep, and take thy rest, Lay down thy head upon thy Saviour's breast, We love thee well, but Jesus loves thee best, Good-night! Good-night! Good-night!" From "The Christians Good-Night""
