Winona Co., MN Deed index: GRANTEE Hubbard Knapp from George Knapp in Sec. 35, Twp. 106, R. 8 Oct. 20, 1858 (Deed Book L, p. 85) GRANTOR Hubbard Knapp to George Weffers in Sec. 35, Twp. 106, R. 8 Oct. 20, 1858 (Deed Book L, p. 56) *** Hubbard Knapp received 3rd place (and a $5 prize) for a two-year old stud horse at the Thirty Sixt Annual Fair of the Michigan State Agricultural Society, held at Schoolraft, Michigan, Sept. 15-19, 1884. (Annual Report of the Secretarty of the Board of Agriculture [of Michigan], Oct. 1, 1883-Sept. 30, 1884, p. 402) *** In 1896 Hubbard Knapp and son George came from Kalamazoo, Michigan, and bought a half-Section of land in Section 33, cast of Dahls'. In the spring of 1897, his wife, nee Alice Longwell, and family joined him. The family consisted of: 1. Mason, who married Mamie Remington 2. Boyd, who married Mae Inman 3. Lou who married Bert Wheeling 4. Ethel who married Walt Richardson 5. George who married Mabel Anderson 6. Alley, who married Frank Myers 7. Clay, who married Agnes Solee, who still live on the original homestead Clay Knapps had three children, namely Duane, Betty (Detwiller), Gertrude (Keeling). One son, Clifford, deceased. Hubbard Knapp passed away in 1907 and Alice in 1926. (Griggs County [North Dakota] History, 1879-1976, p. 316) **** Hubbard Knapp (1837-1907) is buried in Hartman Cemetery, Sutton, Griggs Co, North Dakota **** Acording to Catherine Brown's family tree, Shamrocks and Wooden Shoes 2011 (World Connect at Rootsweb.com), Hubbard Knapp was born 11 March 1838, and was the son of Dr. William Knapp and Clarissa Donkins. Dr. William Knapp was b. abt. 1803, say in Pennsylvania, and lived in Union, Branch Co., MI in 1850 and 1860, then in Coldwater, Branch Co., MI in 1870 and 1877 when and where he died. Other family trees indicate that Hubbard's father William Clay Knapp was b. 16 Jul 1802 in Pennsylvania and died 11 Nov 1876 in Coldwater, Branch County, Michigan. He married Clarissa Dunican (1809-1875) and had up to 12 children, including a son named George (b. 1830 in New York, d. 1855 in Branch County, Michigan). William C. may have been a son of John Knapp (1757-1835) and Eunice/Unice Wilcox (1763-1832) of Goshen, Orange County, New York, and Springfield, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. John was supposedly a son of Zephaniah Knapp (1736-1816) and Milicent "Millah" Roe (1741-1806) of Danbury, Fairfiled, Connecticut, and Pittston Twp., Luzerne County, Pennsuylvania.
