Continued: August Scheidt served as the Royal Forrester at Mallenczin by the 1840s. His occupation and residence are mentioned in his son's 1846 marriage record, as well as his own 1850 (third) marriage record. He was the godfather at the baptism of his grandson, Hermann Robert Scheidt, in 1852. In these records, he is simply recorded as August Scheidt, while his 1850 marriage record refers to him as Gottfried August Scheidt, age 64 -- indicating he was born about 1785-1786. Mallenczin is a specific house and farm complex that still stands about a mile east of Ober Buschkau. Mallenczin is still known as "Lesniczowka Malentyn"—the Forester's Lodge Malentyn. August Scheidt, forester at Malencin, is identified as the father of August Scheidt who married Anna Florentina Milbrandt on 30 September 1852 in Dirschau (now Tczew), establishing a connection between persons named Scheidt in these two places. As such, the ancestor is undoubtedly the same, Johann August Scheidt, husband of Eleanor Florentine Gertenberger, who had children who were born and died between 1812 and the early 1820s in Danzig. This family then moved within the scope of the church at Dirschau (now Tczew), which is along the Vistula Rivera bout 20 miles south of the city of Gdansk (Danzig). Eleonore Florentine Scheidt (geb. Gerstenberger), wife of August Scheidt, forester and overseer of roads, died 18 January and was buried 23 January 1840 in Dirschau (Tczew). August Scheidt, widower, age 58, married on 27 Sep 1840 Mrs. Ann Knoedler, neé Thiel, age 50, widow of Friedrich Albert Knoedler (a painter who died in Stargardt -- actually Danzig-Stargard, just a few miles southwest of Dirschau). August Scheidt is identified as a "Chaussee-Aufseher" (civil servant-overseer) and (former?) forester at Montau. They appear to have married in or near the village of Damaschken, about 5 miles west of Dirschau, and the marriage was recorded in the Evangelical (Protestant/Lutheran) parish of Dirschau. Note: Montau was likely a particular forest, possibly near the village on Montau, along the Vistula River just south of Nuenburg. Note: Friedrich Albert Knoedler, age 60, died 4 Feb 1837 in Danzig Stargard. His death record indicate she was a painter and left a widow Anna. "Gottfried" August Scheidt, age 64, royal forester of Mallenczin, married Wilhemine Simon (born Hinz), widow, on 28 May 1850 -- marriage recorded at Loblau. Three entries for the death and burial of "Christoph" August Scheidt were recorded in the city of Danzig. He died at 12:30 P.M. on 15 February 1866 in Danzig, and was buried 22 February in a military cemetery there. His death was recorded in the parish records of St. Marien (the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) in the heart of old Danzig. These records indicate that "Christoph" August Scheidt was a retired forester -- or a forester now out of service -- and that he died of old age weakness. It should be noted that Mallinczen is only about 12 miles away. These records indicates that he was born 22 April 1785 in Greifenberg (present-day Gryfice, Pomerania, in the northwestern corner of Poland, about 160 miles west of Danzig/Gdansk). The "Christoph" August Scheidt who died in 1866 in Danzig is undoubtedly the same "Johann August Heinrich" Scheidt who was born 22 Apr 1785 and baptized 24 Aug 1785 in Greifenberg. He was the son of Johann Christoph Scheidt and Anna Maria Hoffenschneider who married 17 March 1768 in Greifenberg and had several other children born there between the 1760s and 1780s. August was apparently their youngest child. A number of other Scheidt / Schaidt / Schäidt / Schüdt records were entered into the books of the Evangelish (Lutheran) Church for the Garnison-Gemeinde (military garrison community) at Greifenberg, and a few in the local parish of Greifenberg. Other persons by the name Scheidt (also Scheib, Schaidt, Schade, Schaade, Scheede, Schadei, etc.) were recorded in Danzig, Dirschau (Tczew) as well as Danzig Stargard (note that a different Johann August Scheidt married a woman named Florentine Mischke and their family was recorded in Stargard and elsewhere). The family was Evangelical (Lutheran) in Religion.
