a. Note:   meda Co., CA. He married Hazel Adele McCrimmon in Newark, Alameda Co. He and Hazel resided in Newark on Rich Ave. (about where the Newark Moose Lodge is now located). His mother, Alice (Proctor) Steinhoff Watkins, lived next door to them, and his sister, Nancy (Steinhoff) Jones, lived the next house down. They all lived across some open fields and the railroad tracks from the James Graham Manufacturing Company where Jim was employed for 52 years. He, his brother and some of their friends had a gun club which owned property in "Section 14" up Alameda Creek above Sunol where they used to go hunting. Jim's share in the place was passed to his grandson, Steve Mento.
 Jim was widowed in 1938. He continued to live in Newark until about 1946 or 1947 when he removed to Dunsmuir, CA to live with his daughter, Aileen. His son, "Bud" Steinhoff, moved to Dunsmuir about the same time and they lived adjacent to one another. They all removed to Santa Rosa, north of San Francisco, in the early 1950s. Jim lived with Bud and wife, Virginia, until he was hospitalized for a few years. James Steinhoff died in 1961 at the Napa State Hospital, near Napa, Napa Co., Calif.
