Note: eth and Mary Jane [Grogan] McCrimmon. It is said that he was born in Minneapolis. The family was living in Carver, MN in 1860, and then in St. Anthony (4th Ward), Hennepin Co., MN in 1870. The family moved to California shortly after 1870. They settled in Oakland, Alameda County by 1874 and likely spent some time in Sonoma County where his father evidently patented land in 1883. George met his wife-to-be, Alice Forrester of Napa Valley, through their mutual friend, Ed Gibbons who was from Pacific Grove. Alice was "going out" with Ed at the time, but George stole her away. Ed Gibbons remained good friends with the couple, never married, was an avid roller-skater in his advanced years, and was affectionately called "great-grandpa" by some of Alice's grandchildren. George McCrimmon married Alice Forrester 28 Dec. 1887 at the residence of his parents, No. 317 Third Street in Oakland. The McCrimmon family was Scottish Presbyterian and attended the Second Presbyterian Church of Oakland. Their daughters were born at their residence, also on Third Street in Oakland: Hazel Adele in 1888 and Eva McCrimmon in 1890. George was a professional painter. He was ill for some time and, while confined to bed, he wanted to have a picture of his daughters. Mary Gibbons Cooper, an artist of some renown from the Pacific Grove/Carmel area (and the sister of George's good friend Ed Gibbons) painted a portrait of young Hazel and Eva; it is in the possession of Betty Jane (Steinhoff) Sheedy. George died 10 March 1893, leaving his wife with two young daughters. His death certificate gives his occupation as "paper hanger" and states the cause of death was Tuberculosis. He was aged 29 years, 8 months, 10 days and was a resident of Oakland for "19 years". The death certificate states George McCrimmon was buried March 12, but Mountain View Cemetery records state interment was March 11. **** OBITUARY: "Death of George McCrimmon "George McCrimmon, brother of Police Officer W. H. McCrimmon, died to-day at 317 Third street. The deceased was a native of Minnesota, aged 29, and had lived in this city nineteen years." **** The death certificate for George McCrimmon gives these facts: Age: 29 years, 8 months, 10 days Married Occupation: Paper Hanger Birthplace: Minnesota Resident of Oakland: 19 years Place of death: 317 Thirt St., Oakland, Calif. Death date: March 10, 1893, 8:05 A.M. Burial: march 12, 1893 at Moutain View Cemetery, Oakland, Calif. Cause of death: Tuburculosis **** His birth date, 30 June 1863, is calculated by subtracting his age from his death date as shown on his death certificate. George's birth date of 28 June 1863 comes from the old Grogan family chart, some of which information is supposed to have come from a family Bible. **** The old Grogan family chart eroneously lists a daughter for George and Alice as "Arlene", which probably confuses Arlene E., daughter of Wm. Henry McCrimmon (not shown on the chart).
Note: George McCrimmon was born in 1863 in Minnesota. He was the son of Kenn
