The following obituary for William Henry Grogan (1798-1889) was published in an Oakland, Calif. newspaper in July 1889 (copy the original clipping in the possession of Nick Sheedy.):
 "A Patriarch Gone
"William Grogan, Who Was Born in the Eighteenth Century
"On Wednesday morning, July 24, Mr. William Grogan died in Oakland at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. McLeod, 1616 Seventeenth Street. He was born in Ireland, County Leitrum [sic], August 31, 1798 so that he was at his death nearly 91 years of age. He leaves seven children, thirty grand children, and one great grandchild. He was the father of Mrs. K. McCrimmon and Mrs. D. McLeod of Oakland and Mr. James Grogan of Benicia. One son resides in New York, two in Canada and one in Ireland. He came to Oakland in 1871* and has been a faithful member of St. John's Episcopal Church. The funeral services were conducted on Friday by Rev. Benjamin Ackerly, assisted by Rev. H. H. Rice. He was buried beside his grand daughter Maggie McCrimmon, who died on May 4, aged 16.
"Mr. Grogan was a good citizen, a loving father and an earnest Christian. He died peacefully and in a ripe old age, and ere his death, like a true Bible patriarch, he laid his hand upon the head of each of his children and grandchildren living in California, and took his little great grandchild in his arms and gave them all his parting blessing. It was a hallowed scene, never to be forgotten by the family. May they all be so blessed to meet him in Heaven."
(* While this obituary states Wm. H. Grogan came to California in 1871, most other refences indicate that the family came to Oakland, California in 1874, and a few suggest some relation came to California as early as 1872. It is possible his son James went to California in the 1850s.)
Another newspaper obituary appeared in the Oakland Enquirer, July 24, 1889:
 "DIED ...
"GROGAN--In this city [Oakland], July 24th [1889], William Grogan, father of Mrs, K. McCrimmon and Mrs. D. McLeod, a native of ireland, aged 90 years, 10 months and 25 days.
"Friends and acquaintences are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Friday, July 26th, at 2 o'clock p.m., from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. D. McLeod, 1616 Seventeenth street, near Peralta."

William Henry Grogan married Margarett (McGowen) Timmons in Ireland.
I have not found how Wm. Grogan came to Oakland, CA or where he was between Ireland and California. Two daughters and two sons also came to California and lived in the Oakland area, Alameda Co. and in the Benicia area, Napa Co., CA.
It is not known where in Canada William H. Grogan's two sons lived. It may be assumed that some relation lived in or near Prescott Co. where the mcCrimmons lived. William's sister-in-law (wife of John Grogan, abt. 1795-1885) died in Pakenham, Lanark, Co., Ontario in 1863, and so that may be a possibility--but the 1918 postal directory for Pakenham showed no one named Grogan (but two men named Timmons).
Note:   His obituatry states that he was born in County Leitrim, Ireland. His p
