 OBITUARY:
 "SICKNESS DRIVES HIM TO SUICIDE
"W. H. McCrimmon Ends His life By Taking the gas Route
"W. H. McCrimmon, a painter and paper hanger, who served as a member of the police force of this city [Oakland] from 1891 to 1894, committed suicide by inhaling gas last night at the Avenue House, 129 San Pablo avenue, where he had made his home, together with his family, the past four or five years.
"The deceased had been in poor health for about two years, and the past two months had apparently worried considerably over his condition, the doctors in attendance upon him having told him at that time that he was aflicted with cancer in the breast. Within the past few days he was told he must undergo an operation in order to save his life. It is supposed that despondency because of his physical condition caused the act.
"He retired to his room, which is No. 37, about 7 o'clock last evening, and no more was seen of him until his dead body was found in the kitchen this morning, as his wife was away from home waiting upon a sick daughter. He apparently arose some time during the night or in the early morning hours, went to the kitchen, which adjoins his room, pulled the table to a point near the gas stove, procured a blanket, lay down, face upward, on the table with his hear resting on the stove, turned on one of the gas tubes and threw the blanket over his head, in order to hold the gas fumes near his mouth. In this condition his body was found. It was removed to the morgue where an inquest will be held.
"Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Arline, age 12 years, and three step-daughters, all married, and all living in Oakland."

The old Grogan family chart erroneously lists the daughter of Henry McCrimmon as Loletta.
