a. Note:   OBITUARY: "Death Ends 30 Years' Service of Prominent Newark Citizen
"Malcolm Reid, for nearly thirty years a highly respected citizen of Newark, died in Hayward Central Hospital September 9, 1926. Funeral services were held in Irvington Sunday afternoon under the auspice of the Odd Fellows Lodge, aided by the Rev. McCall of Newark. The remains were buried in the Irvington Cemetery.
"Malcolm Reid was born in Memrenfershire, Scotland, October 9, 1869. In 1882 he immigrated to America with the immediate members of the family and located in Massachusetts. In 1890 Mr. Reid came to California and located in Benicia where he engaged in the making of terra cotta with his brother, John Allen Reid. Later, the two brothers became stove-plate moulders.
"In 1898 Mr. Reid was joined in marriage to Mrs. Alice McCrimmon of Benicia, and the following year they removed to Newark where Mr. Reid entered the employ of the James Graham Manufacturing Company as a moulder. Prior to the death of Mrs. Reid, which took place slightly more than a year ago, Mr. Reid has been in failing health.
"Malcolm Reid was a man of sterling character. He was always found on the right side of civic questions where honesty and general usefulness were involved. Although a man whos ability could have carried him to a higher sphere, he was content to live a lowly life.
"The deceased is survived by two brothers; John Allen Reid of Downieville, California; and James W. Reid of Portland, Oregon. An only sister, Mrs. Agnes Richmond, lives in Borrowsville, Massachusetts. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Mrs. Hazel Steinhoff and Mrs. Eva Steinhoff of Newark.
"It can be truthfully said that if every man, native or foreign born, would close as fine a history as Malcolm Reid closed, America's heritage to the ages would indeed be safe."
