Notes
a. Note:   ed to live with her daughter. Aunt Effie wrote a letter regarding family history to her niece, Eva (McCrimmon) Steinhoff in the 1940s when Effie was near 80 years old. A small painting of boats near a coast or in a bay by Aunt Effie is in the possession of her great-niece, Betty Jane (Steinhoff) Sheedy.
Thomas & Effie are found in the 1900 census in Salvador Precinct, Napa Co., CA living with Thomas¹ mother Rosalia. They have been married 9 years. Effie is mother of 2 with 1 living, Mabel born in Feb. 1892.
On 14 Jun 1890 when Effie A. was 22, she married Thomas I. MAYFIELD, son of James MAYFIELD & Rosalie UNKNOWN, in Oakville, Napa Co., CA. Witnesses were J. M. Mansfield and John Forrester. The groom¹s father was from Alabama and his mother from Connecticut. The bride¹s parents were from Missouri. Born in Jun 1864.

Aunt Effie (Forrester) Mayfield wrote this in a letter to her niece, Eva (McCrimmon) Steinhoff in the 1940s when Effie was in her 80s [notes in brackets by NMS]:
  Eva,
I am not positive of all these statements, but will give them as I remember.
1st, our grandparents, the "Forresters" lived in Missouri. Great-grandmother's maiden name was "Myers." She [Mary (Myers) Forrester] lived to be quite old-was found dead in her bed. Grandfather [George Washington Forrester] lived a few years longer.
The town in Mo. that our family was born in was Greensburg, Knox Co., Mo. If there are any first-cousins living, I don't know them. There was a cousin named Johnnie [John J. Forrester, b. 1872, son of Geo. W. Forrester, Jr.]. The last I heard of him, he was living up in "Dunsmuer" Calif. He was Martha's [Martha Forrester, 1859-1929] youngest brother.
My mother's maiden name was "Maggard". She and father were married somewhere in Missouri. Father Forrester died at his home in Oakville, at age of 60 years. He died of "Dropsy". Mother died at home in Rutherford a few years later. She was 68 years.
In grandfather Forrester's family, there were these children [of Geo. W. and Mary (Myers) Forrester]: John, Wash, Axel, Amanda and Lucy. Aunt Amanda married Stewart Musgrave and Lucy married Abe Musgrave. Aunt Lucy had these children: Frank, Hulda and Lucy. Frank Musgrave was Elinore and Sadie's father. He died several years ago. [Effie has this confused: Aunt Lucy married William Thompson. It was Aunt Sarah Forrester --whom Effie does not list-- who married Abner Musgrave. Frank, Hilda and Lucy were actually children of Sarah and Abe. Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Musgrave at least moved to California.]
Your mother [Alice (Forrester) McCrimmon Reid, b. 1862] and my parents [John and Martha E. (Maggard) Forrester] moved from Missouri to California in 1871. I was three years old, and as far as I know, I have outlived all of them.
My father's family consisted of the following children: Mary, Alice, Charlie, Effie and Buddy.
  Always,
 --Aunt Effie A. Mayfield
