Continued: Herman Howard Sheedy (1880-1948) was employed by the railroads for his entire career. His first position with Great Northern Railway was as the station agent at Deer Park, Washington, just north of Spokane. By 1909, he moved to Astoria, Oregon, and then to Portland about 1910. For many years, he served as the station agent for the historic Union Station in Portland, Oregon. He held that position through World War II when a great deal of trust was placed in station agents to ensure that transportation was properly rationed and goods were efficiently shipped for the war effort. He was responsible for ensuring that all trains running to, from and through Portland were on time. Herman was known as "the most punctual man in Portland."
Herman had two sons by his second wife, Phila Eliza Wells, whom he married in 1908 at Grand Forks, British Columbia: Roy Herman Sheedy (1909-1986) and Donald Wells Sheedy (1917-1974), both of whom resided in Portland. One granddaughter survives, the accomplished abstract artist, Carolyn Cole.
